It should be an exploit to undertake a system invasion of this scale without reinforcing the node first. Nothing of this scale in Eve happens totally without premedititation, and the honor system doesn't hold when the aggressors are rewarded so significantly for not petitioning the node they're going to invade tomorrow.
Making it an exploit would be a hamfisted response, too, but I don't really see how else to stop this from happening until CCP can figure out how to reinforce nodes dynamically/on the fly. And CCP loves hamfisted responses, like bulk-mailing a form letter to everyone who petitioned for reimbursement last night on the grounds that lag affected everyone equally in Y-2.

Fresh batch of tear incoming guys!!!
Some of the content in this thread made me smile, however, out of all of the posts in this thread, this one won a real life lol.
if the tables were turned we would be crowing about your hilarious losses, and you would be accusing us of this and that and petitioning your losses. The schadenfreude is strong, as always, but I don't see how anyone can defend the status quo from a game design perspective. I wasn't accusing IT of exploiting; I was saying that with no hope on the horizon of dynamic node reinforcement that doesn't require downtime, I really don't see how else CCP could fix the problem. The only way a system like Y-2 could be defended would be if it was reinforced; the only way it could have been reinforced is if IT voluntarily petitioned it in advance. As important as the first day is under the new sovereignty mechanics it should be obvious that something needs another look here. As much as both sides here love to see the other get a broomstick snapped off in the ass, you have to be ******ed to look at the status quo and believe that this is how the game should play out. I'm sure you've got a few people in your alliance who'd have preferred a fight where the targets shot back, though they're probably not your designated forum warriors.
Alternatively CCP could just get rid of the daily downtime, and we could sov4 every vulnerable system with 600 docked afk trial accounts.

Originally by: General Windypops You're right, it was CCP that forced the FC to decide that was the best time to jump in. It was CCP that decided the best course of action was to let IT build up steadily throughout the day rather than trying to make a beachhead. There's NO WAY that what happened to the NC twice in a row would EVER happen to them, right?
There's nothing we can do about IT building up in euro prime when we're a US alliance, but the best time to jump into a non-reinforced system with 700 in local already is to wait until it's reinforced after downtime, which is too late under the new sov mechanics. It's just not possible to bring in the numbers to counter that if the node isn't reinforced which brings us back to my point, which is that the invaders' CEO is in complete control of whether or not the target system can be defended in the first place because of the way node reinforcement works. It's game breaking whether you're talking about SirMolle or karttoon, though it certainly favors whoever's timezone comes first after downtime.

Keep your pants on Windypops, CCP reimbursements are already rolling out which is record-breaking turnaround in itself.
